This red Christmas toile pillow cover is for the host who starts decorating the day after Thanksgiving and swaps every cushion in the house. They love a traditional Christmas: carols, candles and a table set with the good china.

The design is a single-colour madder red toile on cream. A horse-drawn sleigh glides down a snowy village lane, carolers hold up lanterns, and evergreens frame a small church spire in the distance. Everything is drawn in fine engraved lines, the way old toile was printed from copper plates. The back is a small scattered repeat of evergreen sprigs and stars in the same red.

Double-sided: the front and back show two different looks from the same design (the back is shown in the photos), so you can flip it whenever you want a change.

One colour on cream keeps it elegant rather than busy, so it mixes with plaid, velvet-look throws and plain red cushions, and it still looks right on a white sofa.

CARE
Take the insert out and wash the cover cold on a gentle cycle with similar colours. Skip the bleach, then tumble dry low or line dry. If it needs pressing, use a low iron and keep it off the printed face.
